A Practice-Based Acting Intensive

A 3-day intensive exploring how actors construct performance through action, relation and composition.
This workshop guides participants through the full creative process: from simple actions, through the development of relations and meaning, to composition.

This workshop focuses on:
- using physically-based actor craft to construct performance
- complementing analytical approaches with action-based work
- developing alternative ways of working with material beyond analysis
- working through action, instinct and organic process
- generating meaning through relation, action and composition
- shaping material into a clear, repeatable performance structure without losing quality
Structure (example 3-day intensive)
Day 1 – Action as the Core of Performance
• task-based improvisation
• physical objectives
• partner, object and spatial dynamics
Day 2 – Structuring Through Action
• from impulse to score
• repetition and precision
• ensemble composition
Day 3 – Scene Construction
• combining short performance studies (etudes)
• refinement and final run
• reflective discussion
Final outcome:
A single composed performance run built from material developed during the workshop.

About The Workshop Leader
Tom Ledan is an actor, director and filmmaker.
He has over 20 years of professional practice across theatre, film and actor training.
His work is grounded in the tradition of Jerzy Grotowski and developed through long-term training with the New World Performance Laboratory (Prof. James Slowiak and Jairo Cuesta), as well as work with Rena Mirecka, Zygmunt Molik and Maud Robart.
He leads workshops and creates performance work across theatre and film, focusing on clarity, continuity and organicity in acting.
