Tom Ledan
Director, Actor, and Filmmaker
With over two decades of experience in theatrical performance, film directing, and visual storytelling, Tom Ledan’s work is a dialogue between tradition and experimentation. His creative practice is strongly connected to the methods of Jerzy Grotowski and his collaborators, emphasising the awareness of the body, presence, and organic aspect as core storytelling tools.
His professional journey began in theatre in 1999 with a transformative workshop led by the New World Performance Laboratory, founded by Prof. James Slowiak and Jairo Cuesta. This led to his participation in the three-year GILDIA project — an intensive exploration of actor training, performance composition, and ensemble work. He later continued his development through workshops with key figures from Grotowski’s theatre, including Rena Mirecka, Zygmunt Molik, Maud Robart, and Przemysław Wasilkowski.
As both a creator and performer, Tom has led and participated in multiple original stage performances, including: “Savonarola and his friends”, “Fire”, “Water”, “The Sack”, and “Innana’s Descent To The Underground World”. His performance work is shaped by a ritualistic, physically grounded approach to storytelling, often inspired by ancient mythologies and symbolic structures.
Over the years, Tom has organised, led, and facilitated numerous cultural and social events that applied theatre and film, in addition to their artistic aspects, as tools to achieve personal and social change.
In addition to theatre, Tom works in independent cinema as a director, actor, editor, and sound designer. He has produced a range of short films and experimental works that reflect his interest in symbolic language, human psychology, and beyond-verbal communication.
